Laguna de Rio Cuarto
Have you heard about the deepest natural lagoon in Costa Rica? Let us introduce it to you: This is the Río Cuarto Lagoon, located in the Alajuela canton of the same name.
Situated at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, the lagoon has a depth of 75 meters. It is of volcanic origin, as its walls are made up of subangular lava blocks, and there are areas where older lava flows can be observed.
In this lagoon, you can find fish, and it is also a habitat for some bird species. Its color ranges from green to blue, but when the sun’s rays hit the water, it takes on an emerald green hue due to the volcanic minerals.
This spot has become a favorite destination for water sports enthusiasts, as some visitors take advantage of the calm waters to practice kayaking or paddle boarding.
Additionally, many tourists, both local and international, choose to spend the day swimming, enjoying a picnic, or walking along its trails to appreciate the local flora and fauna. Be very cautious when walking the trails; we recommend wearing closed shoes.
It’s important to note that there are no facilities or public services here, so don’t forget to bring snacks and drinks. Please remember to take your trash with you!
Here, you will also find a small dock where you can take incredible photos with your friends or family. Are you tempted yet? We hope you will soon enjoy this destination and rediscover Río Cuarto.
