Pozo Azul Waterfall
The Pozo Azul waterfall is one of our favorite places to visit!. It is one of highest, most impressive and beautiful waterfalls in all of Costa Rica.
With a drop of 580 feet, Pozo Azul is one of the largest free fall waterfalls in Costa Rica, and it is only 30 minutes from our hotel. It is located in La Colonia del Toro, near the now famous town of Bajos del Toro. This area is booming now with visitors from all over the world that are in search of impressive waterfalls and this whole area has exactly that and in addition to Pozo Azul, there are several other great waterfalls you can visit in the area.
Your hosts at Pozo Azul are Doña Emilce Chacon and her family. The hike of about 3 kms starts down a pasture, then across a river, which you can cross on foot or using a hand operated cable car. There is a overlook point where you can safely appreciate the height and the great amount of water that is free falling.
You will then hike down to the watertall, which is a steep decline, but has stairs and ample ropes that you can use to help you down and up.
At the bottom of the waterfall, you can swim in the cool water and feel the mist from the enormous waterfall spray your face. You then hike back to the restaurant where the Chacon family will serve you a large and tasty traditional Costa Rican meal.
If you still have energy, there are two other waterfalls near the restaurant that you can visit on your way or go back to visit after lunch.
